Ikshita Agarwal (Ya Devi Sarva Bhutheshu)

Devi is present as consciousness in everyone and we can feel her presence if we are able to meditate which helps us to look deep into ourselves. Whatever we see around us are all blessings of Devi. Devi is found in every form – beauty, peace, destruction as well as creation.

Mahishasura Mardhini Stotra

Mahishasura Mardhini means one who killed the Asur - Mahishasura. The demon was in the form of buffalo and hence gets the name Mahish + Asura. Devi Durga was created by Bhramha, Vishnu and Shiva to eradicate evil from this universe. The beautiful Stotra is very captivating and describes in detail her beauty, power, emotion, skills, compassion and divinity. This Stotra Pathh is mostly done during Sandhi Puja that is the last 24 minutes of Ashtami

Thithi and first 24 minutes of Navami Thithi. These 48 minutes are considered to be very auspicious. It is believed that during this time the 3rd eye of Devi Durga opens and she comes to remove all evils from this universe and bless all her devotees.

Nitya Kothari (Dhunuchi Dance)

Durga Puja is incomplete without men, women, girls and boys taking the floor to dance to the rhythmic beats of dhaak and bell. Dhunuchi is traditionally made of clay which is held by a stem. It has got a natural insulation property. It is usually lit by setting fire to the dry coconut husk on which dhunu (fragmented incense powder) and camphor are sprinkled. This dance is a form of aarati and the way of worshipping goddess Durga.

Description of Dhaaki -

Shubhojit Bhalla hails from the remote village of Tildanga,  Murshidabad. He has grown up in a village where most of the families belong to the 'dhaki community'. The sticks with which dhaaks are played, are considered auspicious. Once the son starts playing the dhaak the father stops playing, he passes down the sticks to his son, who then takes the tradition forward. Shubhojit has done the same. While studying in class VI, the young boy has started playing the dhaak from a very young age. He comes to Kolkata along with his father to Sensharma family residence every autumn during Durga Puja, and plays the dhaak during this festive season every year. The remuneration he receives, acts as an added income for him and his family.

Durga Puja indeed touches many lives.
