Interview with Mr. Sumit Dasgupta – OC, Kolkata Police Department, and MR. Rajib Shaoo – Assistant to OC, Kolkata Police Department
Mr. Dasgupta has been a member of the Kolkata Police Department for the last 26 years and Mr. Shaoo has been a member of the Kolkata Police Department for the last 22 years. Durga Puja in Kolkata is the grandest of all festivals celebrated in honour of Goddess Durga and a huge responsibility lies in the hands of the Kolkata Police in maintaining law and order in the city to make the celebrations a success. Our teacher helped to get in touch with the police officers. They agreed to give their valuable time and the interviews were conducted using the online platforms owing to the current ongoing pandemic situation. The officers felt honoured and took pride in giving their valuable inputs that would help in completing our project.

We talked about the challenges, the Kolkata Police faced during Durga puja in the pandemic year keeping in mind the success of the celebrations and at the same time ensuring the safety of the people. We also discussed about the steps taken by the Kolkata Police to ensure safe immersion of the idols and the measures incorporated by the Kolkata Police to minimize the anti-social activities during the celebrations thus ensuring the safety of the people. It was a wonderful opportunity to have such a conversation with the respected officers who play a vital role in making Durga Puja celebrations in our city a great success.
Interview with Mr. Biplab Mondal
Traffic police play a vital role during various festivals and events held in the city. Maintaining law and order, ensuring peace and discipline, and providing a helping hand to those who need it.
Probably the most daunting and challenging task faced by the Kolkata Police annually is the puja. It brings out the best in the Traffic Department while manning the overcrowded roads, streets, and puja pandals. Like previous years, this year also saw a record crowd in the city during the puja days. Through effective and efficient management, the flow of traffic was well-managed. Both the media and the public appreciated this effort.
Going through the below site and getting the information made us quite aware of the fact that the Traffic police have a major role on all the days of the Durga Puja. We asked our Administrator Sir and got the contact of Mr. Biplab Mondal. After a couple of conversations with him, he could give us some time for the interview, as he has emergency duties and is not available at all times. It was great learning while talking to him. When we enjoy ourselves, visiting pandals, and seeing the festivities, the Traffic police team unite together and make sure that our festivals are safe and sound.
